Landscape- and local-level variables affect monarchs in Midwest grasslands

چکیده

It is estimated that over one billion milkweed stems need to be restored sustain the eastern North American migratory population of monarch butterflies; where and in what context should placed on landscape key addressing habitat deficits. We assessed how amount appropriate surrounding a particular patch affects presence reproduction. To ensure restoration efforts are targeted towards areas maximize growth, it important understand effects heterogeneity occurrence patches (i.e. grasslands with milkweeds) across landscape. Over two summers (2018–2019), we surveyed adults, larvae, eggs at sixty grassland sites Wisconsin varied size (proportion grassland, forest edge density, road density). also density floral richness characterize local quality. Adult abundance was highest lowest proportion heavily influenced by quality variables. Egg larva increased within patch. Patch unrelated abundance. These results suggest optimal for landscapes which contain little high conservation goals.

Lynton: convicts, landscape and colonisation strategies in midwest Western Australia

Historical and archaeological studies of Australian convictism have embraced a variety of themes and directions, from exploration of the ideologies and mechanisms of punishment and reform (e.g. Kerr 1984, 1988), to investigations of convicts as part of broader colonizing strategies and a means of creating industrial workforces (e.g. Blair and Claoué-Long 1993). It is increasingly apparent that ...

Landscape Context Influences Nest Survival in a Midwest Grassland

Although the management and restoration of habitat is the key method to conserve species of interest, local habitat management often fails to elicit desired responses in populations. Landscape features beyond the local habitat scale affect the population dynamics of ring-necked pheasants (Phasianus colchicus), but the mechanism behind this response is unknown. One possibility is that nest survi...

Local habitat and landscape affect Ixodes ricinus tick abundances in forests on poor, sandy soils

A large fraction of the forests in northern Belgium consists of homogeneous pine stands on nutrientpoor and acid sandy soils. However, in common with many other parts of Europe, the current forest management aims at increasing the share of deciduous and mixed forests. This might create favourable habitats for the tick Ixodes ricinus, which is Europe’s main vector of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu l...
